Emmett Martin Hatlelid

Emmett Martin Hatlelid’s work takes value from the past, and brings it to the present. His style as a jazz vocalist hearkens to the sound of Bing Crosby, Al Bowlly, and Frank Sinatra. He studied voice at Vancouver Community College, and studied privately with traditional jazz trombonist, Brad Shigeta, who is a former member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra under the direction of Mercer Ellington and a student of Hal Schaefer.

Emmett’s music evokes the spirit of a time when music was restorative, when people walked home humming the tunes they’d just heard and danced to, and those notes carried them through tough times.

He takes pleasure in the pop-culture of old, setting music to the words of Emily Dickinson, and watching musicals from their golden age, such as the works of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. He hopes to share some of that magic with contemporary audiences, performing mostly in the Vancouver and lower mainland area.

A good idea with passionate individuals behind it is what gets me going!

With training and work experience in Marketing, Event Management and Architecture along with being an International Sailing Coach for the past ten years I have been afforded the opportunity to work alongside many inspiring individuals and groups.

With this experience I came to realise my passion and strengths are within creating and building relationships as well as realizing an idea or team's potential and helping them present that potential to prospective clients both visually and verbally.

I am always looking for a challenge and for the opportunity to help an individual or team bring an idea/dream to fruition!
